Abstract
In this paper, a new color image enhancement technique is proposed. First, input color images are converted to the HSV color space. Then, a new proposed enhancement homomorphic filtering technique is applied on the value component to improve illumination. Finally, a color restoration function is used to overcome the problems of color violation. For the purpose of evaluation, experiments are carried out on the Caltech dataset. The performance of the proposed method is assessed in terms of an image quality measure and compared to the state-of-the-art approaches. It is demonstrated that our approach shows the best results. It succeeded to enhance illumination of images with no loss of details.
