The Health Landscape of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Abstract

Prior to the Islamic Revolution, nine medical schools were located in Iran, of which two were fairly newly established. Three schools were located in Tehran, and the rest in the larger cities. The total number of students admitted to these schools was 1207 annually. The number of other health education schools such as dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and midwifery was even more limited. These health education schools were also located mainly in Tehran and a few larger cities. The total number of health-related faculty members was 2552. ABSTRACT
