Abstract

This chapter provides fundamental principles of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and single carrier (SC) modulation schemes, with a focus on frequency-domain equalisation. We begin with basic concepts, followed by the description of the cyclic prefix (CP) technique, which allows for a low-complexity equaliser. We then show how to optimally calculate the equaliser coefficients, and then we present some bit error rate (BER) results that illustrate the performance differences among the possible modulation schemes.
