Zebulon Pike may not always have known where in the Rockies he was, or who he was working for, but his valor was in service of American values he held dear. I am heartened that people like him usually found their way out of the woods when they were lost, usually with a lot of help from others, and Orsi’s book goes far to tell us how—and why their stories matter.
