Natural gas is considered as a promising alternative fuel. Advantages of using natural gas as the gas motor fuel in the internal combustion engines are shown. Main problems are considered that arise when adapting internal combustion engines to this type of fuel and ways to solve them. Possibility of improving indicators of the fuel efficiency and the exhaust gases toxicity when converting an internal combustion engine to the natural gas is indicated. It is concluded that using the gas-diesel engines running on natural gas and igniting by an ignition dose of the petroleum diesel fuel is a promising solution. The electronic fuel supply control system developed for the gas-diesel engines is described.
