Abstract
The impact of ambient illumination on visual fatigue while watching TV was investigated. The tested ambient illumination included 120Hz full modulated LED light source, normal fluorescent light source and dark environment. Visual fatigue was measured with subjective ratings (12 symptoms, considering general discomfort and eye fatigue) and ophthalmological parameters (CFF, NRA, PRA, NPA, NPC) both before and after watching television. Results showed that, generally, both subjective ratings and ophthalmological parameters indicated significant visual fatigue after watching TV. However, only subjective ratings reflected more visual fatigue under dark environment compared to the illuminated environment. The difference between LEDs and fluorescent lamps was not significant.
