Rente sur l’environnement et localisation

Abstract

The pollution of the environment (and the destruction of part of it) by the firms is at the origin of an environmental rent. Nevertheless, the opportunities to capture this rent vary along with the territories. The populations are more or less sensitive to the quality of the environment, and what we call ‘the relation to environment’ can therefore favour or constrain the capture of the rent. In other respects, history, geography and economic conditions also influence the amount of the rent levied by the firm, which is the quantity of pollution emitted free of charge by this firm. For this reason, the environmental rent becomes a location factor.
