Hanseatic league as an economic and managerial phenomenon

Abstract

Today the academics and practitioners actively search for economic and managerial models that would allow increasing the efficiency of business, both industrial and commercial. In this regard, the experience of the Hanseatic League is of theoretical and practical interest. The article shows that the economic and managerial experience of the Hanseatic League were largely ahead of the time, and a number of approaches and models that have gained popularity recently have been tested and successfully used by the Hansa merchants. In particular, this refers to the network structure of the business, trust as a factor of effective management and the institution of apprenticeship.
