A Review of Literature on Braille Tab and the Underlying Technology

Abstract

The Braille Tab is an electronic device used to convert text files and speech into braille language on the tab designed specifically for the visually impaired. In the age of innovation, a solution for the problems faced by the visually impaired ought to be found. Many activities like reading plain text, chatting online, sharing files and performing other routine yet indispensable tasks would be made possible through a braille tab. In this paper, the need of a multipurpose braille tab is envisaged based on a thorough study of the diverse literature available today. Along with using the tab to create braille-equivalent files of text and speech, a messaging system can be developed via a mobile application synchronized with the tab. Its functions can be extended by using it as a ‘book-reader’ for online portals, and for interfacing it with the existing keyboards. Adding features like these would make the tab more user-friendly and provide a much needed lucid and convenient experience.
