The Study of Lin Zhao’en’s Life View—An Investigation of Annotation to the Doctrine of the Mean

Abstract

Based on Lin Zhao’en’s annotations on the opening three sentences of the Doctrine of the Mean, this paper reviews the background of Annotation to the Doctrine of the Mean, focuses on how Lin Zhao’en clarified his view of life through the annotations on the opening three sentences of the Doctrine of the Mean, and analyzes the three religious factors in the formation and realization of his view of life. It is concluded that the core of Lin Zhao’en’s view of life lies in the double cultiva-tion of life.
