Abstract
Network operators need an integrated view of the global telecommunications network on which they operate. This is provided by standard based integrated management. As part of this global network, distribution networks have to provide management interfaces offering such integration capabilities, i.e., based on management standards. TMN standards offer tools to model either this global network or any network equipment. An example of management of an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) passive optical network (PON) is given, and some guidelines for the management of the distribution networks are provided.
