Abstract

The design of a fully integrated LC voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) based on a cross-coupled pair with a current reuse approach and a bulk bias methodology is presented in this paper. The proposed circuit reduces the oscillator transconductance variations related to temperature and process variation even operating at 1V of supply voltage. This circuit was designed and simulated in 180nm CMOS technology consuming 1.2mW with −92 dBc/Hz of phase noise (PN) at 1 MHz from the carrier and tuning range from 4.78 to 5.04 GHz (5.2%). The chip is being produced and experimental results will be available soon.
