Fault tolerance patterns for distributed machine control systems

Abstract

When designing distributed machine control systems, developers and architects need to often tackle with fault tolerance issues. There are already some patterns available to help in the design process. However, while we carried out architectural evaluations in Finnish machine industry, we identified patterns which are not so broadly documented. In this paper we will present fault tolerance patterns that we found during those evaluations. In addition, we will show our pattern language graph to demonstrate how these patterns are related to the rest of the pattern language.
