Abstract

The proposed averaged photon-path imaging (APPI) method uses Monte Carlo data to reconstruct the images being scanned by optical tomography. To confirm its effectiveness, simulated continuous-wave measurements of one or two absorbers located in a cubic scattering medium were performed. The three-dimensional locations of the absorbers were accurately reconstructed using the APPI method. Combining time-resolved measurement with the APPI method improved the accuracy of the reconstructed images. The APPI method can thus be applied to various measuring situation for practical image reconstruction.
