Cities on the Frontline of the Energy Crisis – Lebanon Case Study

Abstract

In the midst of compounded crises—specifically, the energy, economic and financial crisis, followed by COVID-19 and, lastly, the explosion at the Port of Beirut, the Lebanese are facing increasing black-out periods and unaffordable generator bills, which have favored an increased interest in alternatives and more sustainable energy sources. The Lebanese legal and political landscape at the government level is complex. Hence, local authorities have a valuable role in making decisions, in assessing their situation as well as improving it via different tools and approaches towards local sustainable development.
