Preserving master drawings: A cultural perspective

Abstract

Summary This paper explores the complexities of the decision-making processes behind the treatment of master drawings by paper restorers and conservators in the West and relates approaches, in a preliminary way, to cultural attitudes. The central importance of connoisseurship issues to the study of master drawings and their influence on their care and technical investigation are considered.
