AN EXPERIMENT IN LARGE-SCALE LANDSCAPE MAPPING OF CITIES

Abstract

The author explores general issues in the mapping of environmental parameters and land uses in cities, before describing in detail a project for compiling a map of landscapes of the water management zones of rivers and water bodies of Minsk, Belarus at a scale of 1:10,000. The paper discusses how several methodological problems were addressed, including the selection of taxonomic categories for mapping and generalization of landscape-unit boundaries at different scales.
