Onset consonant clusters in Phu Quy dialect

Abstract

This paper indicates that three onset consonant clusters are preserved in Phu Quy dialect, including [khl-],[bh-],[bj-]. These clusters are not allowed in modern Standard Vietnamese, and are replaced by corresponding single consonants f-, f-, v-/ (“tr, ph, v”). However, the preservation of them are not “stable” not only across informants but also across pronunciations of a specific informant.
