Becoming a Historian

Abstract

This is a brief position paper arguing that interdisciplinarity has long been essential to eighteenth-century studies. Many of the founders of the field as it is practiced today worked at the crossroads between literature and history. I conclude by repeating Lucien Febvre's call for a truly historical history of literature.
