What the World Needs to Keep Learning from Tim Berners-Lee’s Creation of the Web

Abstract

On the occasion of Professor Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s receiving the Turing Award, we are called to reflect both on what we have learned from Berners-Lee’s example over the years. I have had the pleasure of working closely with Tim at MIT and the World Wide Web Consortium over the past 20 years and have come to realize that not only did Tim give the world the Web itself but he also did so in a way that sets an example for how the world should face the substantial social and political challenges brought by the Web and other digital networked technologies.
