Abstract
The role of new and renewable energy (NRE) sources is increasing rapidly, and probably this trend will continue in the medium and long term. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the possible evolution of the energy for electricity generation from renewable resources in the APEC region for the period 2005-2050. Scenario projections are obtained by using specific econometric models which estimate the electricity consumption in residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors. Results indicate the impact of different energy pathways on emissions, fuel consumption and some political implications.
