Abstract

The Yangzi delta provides a good example of the transformations of port infrastructures . The text first introduces an historical analysis of port transformations and a synthesis of the geographical, economic and political foundations with a view to understand the evolution of networks. The persistence of medium size ports is then examined through various case studies . The evolution in economic conditions, the role of maritime companies , the relationship between ports and territorial planning , and the impact of public policies and jurisdictional framework are evaluated .
