With a special focus on China’s passenger car sector, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the complex process of institutional changes in China’s automobile industry in the post-WTO era (2001-2008), and in particular to understand the interactions of international commitment and domestic reform as well as politics behind the new institutional changes domestically.
