View ahead: the technology for deaf-blind individuals

Abstract

Thousands of people have the multiple handicap of partial or total sight and hearing loss. The author describes from his own experience what it is like to be without these senses. He examines the problem from the standpoint of information needs and discusses what technology can do to assist such individuals in obtaining information.
