Abstract

Although low-density polyethylene (LDPE) serves as a good cable insulator, a serious material deficiency may arise from treeing deterioration under the long term application of high voltage [1]. For the past decade, many researchers have tried to improve the treeing-retarding properties of this material. Despite the many avenues of research, a more complete understanding of the retardation process is needed. The purpose of this paper is to report results on the effectiveness of several organic compounds as additives to prevent treeing propagation.
