The Influence of Indonesia: The Musicological Evidence Reconsidered

Abstract

The publication in 1964 of the Rev. A. M. Jones' book Africa and Indonesia: the evidence of the Xylophone and other musical and cultural factors aroused much controversy. In this article the author replies to his critics. This is a revised version of the paper presented at the Conference “East Africa and the Orient” held at Nairobi in 1967.
