Abstract

A new Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) algorithm for an integer based discrete cosine transform (IntDCT) allowing an effective VLSI implementation based on systolic array is proposed. While maintaining a good approximation of the floating-point transform coefficients, the proposed algorithm has the advantages of an integer transform which also allows a restructuring into a regular and modular, systolic array-based computation structure with an effective VLSI implementation. The resulting VLSI architecture is flexible enough to allow an efficient incorporation of an obfuscation technique that considerably improves the hardware security and offers high-speed performances due to concurrent computation and use of the pipelining technique with a low hardware complexity.
