Abstract

Hierarchical mobile IPv4 provides micro-mobility enhancements for the original mobile IPv4 standard. However, as the size of wireless cells decreases, the macro-mobility (or inter-domain handoff) case becomes more common. We propose a fast inter-domain handoff algorithm to provide efficient macro-mobility management and present the simulation results. Our scheme reduces the home registration latency and hence minimizes the disruption caused by macro-mobility handoffs for both downlink and uplink packet streams.
