Abstract

A fundamental assumption that has driven the design of sensor networks for decades is that communication is the most powerhungry component of an individual sensor system. The powerconsumption gap between communication and other modules has driven a plethora of design choices in sensor networks, primarily by encouraging designers to reduce data at the source, thereby minimizing the amount of data that needs to be communicated.
