Abstract

This paper evaluates the potential effect of a second civilian frequency on static GPS baseline precision. The status of negotiations regarding the new frequency is reviewed. The results of a test that simulates two civilian frequencies are then presented for five GPS observables commonly used in data processing. Analysis of the results reveals no statistical difference between current survey precision and that obtainable if the new frequency is introduced.
