Abstract

: Embrapa, in partnership with the Hydroelectric Company of São Francisco (Chesf), carried out studies to evaluate the effects of the substitution of the furrow irrigation by the drip irrigation system in the watermelon crop, in order to avoid contamination lake water and groundwater by applied through the irrigation water. The highest yields were obtained with drip irrigation (56 to 72 tons.ha -1 ), compared to furrow irrigation with yields ranging from 30 to 36 tons.ha -1 .
