The Berkeley Networks of Workstations (NOW) Project

Abstract

The paper describes the Berkeley Network of Workstations (NOW) Project. This project leverages the high bandwidth, switch based local area networks with a custom low latency network interface and global layer operating system; this makes a building full of desktop computers act as a single large computer: "the building is the computer".
