FITL specification in Germany-PON system for interactive services

Abstract

In 1994 Deutsche Bundespost Telekom will supply some 500,000 households with telephone, data services and to some extent CATV via optical fiber systems. In order to procure the necessary optical fiber systems conditions and terms have been drawn up in the so-called technical requirements for OPAL (optical access line) systems. The most important specifications for interactive services are presented and the background and intentions of various specifications are explained. The requirements are compared with international activities - especially with the work of ETSI TM3. The content of the so-called technical requirements, summarizing specification requirements for passive optical networks (PONs) systems for the 94 deployment program, is presented.
