Abstract
With the development of network technology and multi-source, massive spatial information processing, and spatial information application services (SIAS), we are proceeding towards distributed and network-based directions. Many SIAS focus on the issues of distributed spatial data integration and sharing in a web-based environment. However, in geological applications, compared with data sharing, data management matters. To support the practical demands in geological data applications, a prototype for distributed geological spatial data integrated management is designed and implemented. This system integrates heterogeneous spatial data from distributed environment, adopts metadata management techniques to maintain and retrieve data, and utilizes several data processing components to extend the system's ability to manage data. Besides, security issues are considered when delivering data in the prototype. Finally, a practical case is given to illustrate the proposed prototype's effectiveness for data management in geological applications.
