Abstract

Battery energy storage system(BESS) connected to the grid by power conversion system(PCS). Currently Cascaded Multilevel Converter(CMC) and Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) are two more advanced topologies for PCS. This paper compares CMC and MMC topologies in aspects of efficiency, harmonic characteristics, reliability, control system complexity and cost, the simulation results are presented. Suggestions for topology suitable for large power output are proposed, which can be used as a reference for the design of large-capacity PCS.
