Abstract

Abstract This chapter focuses on the origin, morphological and physiological characteristics, cultivation history, breeding, vegetative propagation methods and molecular genetics of cashews (Anacardium occidentale). The importance of genetic manipulation in improving the pest resistance, salt tolerance and yield and quality of cashew germplasm is also discussed.
