Abstract

Using Berry’s own career as a structure, the development of the scholarship on the Scottish Enlightenment from the mid-1960s is charted. In conjunction with the most significant publications, the general trends in the scholarship are identified together with an assessment of their influence. Berry also outlines the major themes in his work.
