Introduction: A Brief History of Environmental Rights and the Development of Standards

Abstract

This chapter provides a history of the development of environmental rights. It introduces the role that each chapter of the book plays in explaining how 'standards' are developing within different types of environmental rights. It also explains the role that the United Nations has played and continues to play in the development of rights that are used for the protection of the environment.
