Abstract

Increased emphasis is being placed on more efficient and cost effective ways to operate power plants and substations. A new generation of integrated control systems, unifying the advantages of conventional control concepts with the latest technology in data processing and distributed automation is offering new benefits to the power utility. The author discusses the concepts of integrated control systems, economy, safety, and availability. Practical examples are discussed.
