A STRATEGIC MOVE

Abstract

Terminal communication systems can dramatically improve port operations. There have been numerous instances, though, where the installation of inappropriate equipment has compounded the problems at a terminal rather than solved them. To avoid such occurrences, the author calls for there to be a strategy in place for the identification of the problems affecting a terminal and for the selection and implementation of a methodology for solving them. He offers pointers on planning systems that are available.
