Assisting law enforcement tasks with thermal camera drones

Abstract

Drones have by now become an indispensable tool in disaster situations and law enforcement. The 2020 coronavirus epidemic has put these tools in a new role. They were deployed, for example, to monitor compliance with quarantine and curfews, to disinfect the streets, and to pass on important information as an announcer. In the course of our research, we aimed to assemble a drone camera system suitable for recognising objects and measuring their temperature. With the available tools, we examined combinations of hardware and software that may be suitable for law enforcement tasks.
