Australian space 2.0

Abstract

Australian Space 2.0 is a new and extremely important development for Australia. The country is developing new strategies and capabilities that take advantage of cubesat/smallsat technologies, which offer new capabilities which are more affordable, thereby making space available to the larger public. As new businesses are formed and as the Australian government develops its strategies, important technology questions / issues / opportunities are arising, including the role of: — advanced manufacturing of satellites — small size/weight/power/cost processing capabilities to enable operations of small/cubesats — machine automation in operating these systems. This talk will summarize the status of Australia Space 2.0 and highlight some of the important technical considerations, with the goal of helping to frame the questions and opportunities for researchers to address, and to encourage new research to support this effort.
