Abstract
Practical design applications of time-stepping finite element analysis to salient-pole synchronous machines are described. With the advent of powerful computer workstations, practical applications of computationally intensive time-stepping solutions to derive the design parameters have become feasible. The new analysis capability has brought the "development" closer to "production" applications by providing the designer with new tools to optimize the designs with greater confidence than were ever possible with conventional analysis tools.
