RF Susceptibility Tests on Home-Entertainment Devices

Abstract

Malfunctioning of electronic home-entertainment equipment in the presence of strong rf fields is of growing concern to the con­ sumer, the government, and the various radio services involved. Even though the amateur service represents a small fraction of the total number of transmitting installations spread throughout the nation, the increasing frequency of EMI complaints is posing a threat to its continued growth and existence. Be­ cause of the seriousness of the problem, the American Radio Relay League has accentuated its efforts to find a solution. A general survey of the EMI situation has been under­ taken and susceptibility tests performed where applicable. This paper deals with the results and conclusions of those efforts undertaken at League headquarters in New­ ington, Connecticut.
