Abstract

Chapter 1 of this book identifies centralized planning, urban management and urban governance as three contrasting paradigms that describe interventions in cities. The way in which we intervene in cities and what we aim to achieve has changed over time, in part because urban challenges have been reframed. The chapters of the book offer a rich combination of sectoral analysis and case studies, which allow us to identify new insights related to the reframing of challenges and how we intervene in cities.
