Abstract
Microfluidics emerged in the beginning of the 1980s and is used in the development of inkjet print heads, DNA chips, lab-on-a-chip technology, micro-propulsion and micro-thermal technologies. It is a multidisciplinary field at the intersection of engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology and biotechnology with practical applications in the design of systems in which low volumes of fluids are processed to achieve multiplexing, automation and high-throughput screening. A total of 35,308 documents are recorded for the study during 2008–2017. All the bibliographic data retrieved from Scopus database and found that 597 documents are open access and the rest 34,711 are available in other sources. It is found that 35,308 documents are published in different journals during 2008–2017 in various regions by many profound authors with respect to different keywords and affiliation. Now the research is multifarious and many scientists are engaged in research round the corners of the world. As a result the research became micro in nature where the scientists are doing their research in a very specific field. Further research in this field is dynamic since other multi-disciplinary subjects are also associated with the research in this field.
