Responsible Gambling

Abstract

These stakeholders use a public health lens with a social justice focus to advocate for communities that have been disproportionately impacted by problem gambling, behavioral health, and other related issues. They argue that, in addition to other considerations, a social justice perspective can inform responsible and problem gambling efforts across the United States and international jurisdictions. They believe that the public health continuum of services, which includes prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery supports, provides ample opportunities to make significant progress in this area. Historically, the field of problem gambling has focused on the individual experience of gambling, with a particular emphasis and advocacy on treatment. Oppressed and marginalized populations and entire communities are often absent from this traditional lens.
