Post appendectomy fistula of the cecum – case report

Abstract

Appendicitis continues to remain the most common cause of urgent surgeries. Statistics still indicate that even up to 40% of surgeries are done unnecessarily. The importance of this issue is reflected in the fact that new scales and expert statements are continuously being established in various surgical organizations in the world. The authors of this paper report a post-appendectomy complication in the form of fecal fistula. In the case description, it was attempted to present the order of the diagnostic and therapeutic process. Fecal fistula is a very rare and severe post-appendectomy complication, linked with high mortality. Medical imaging in the form of fistulography and CT allows rapid identification of this complication. Right hemicolectomy is an adequate therapeutic procedure.
