One of the prominent proactive routing protocols in MANET called Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) uses the concept of Multipoint relays (MPR) to avoid unnecessary transmissions of Link State messages. It also decreases the overhead in the network. However, the major problem in OLSR is when a specific node loses any of its neighbors it will execute MPR continuously, which leads to broadcasting of the Topology Control (TC) message. In this paper, we propose two new methods called Backup MPR and Routing Table Mechanisms that minimize the number of execution of MPR in order to reduce the congestion of control messages in OLSR. Abstract
