Abstract

The following article describes a new procedure for prediction of congestion due to road works on freeways. The model was developed by the Institute of Traffic Engineering and Transport Management at the University of Kassel (Germany). Based on the estimation of the traffic demand and the capacity of long term construction sites and short term maintenance sites, the congestion process is calculated by a macroscopic model.
